Lesedi Strengthens Nuclear Refuelling Expertise Through International Training Partnership

Training and development play a vital role in empowering employees to deliver operational excellence. The Outage Services division, led by Managing Executive Nicky Van Der Poel, recently partnered with Framatome in Lynchburg, where specialised training was delivered to further sharpen and build on the division’s existing refuelling expertise.

Van der Poel highlighted that Lesedi’s refuelling team brings extensive experience from multiple refuelling operations, including work locally at the Koeberg Nuclear Power Station, as well as international nuclear facilities in Finland, the USA, Brazil, and the Netherlands. 

“The training initiative for our already experienced team forms part of Lesedi’s ongoing investment in strengthening our in-house nuclear capabilities and ensuring that the teams remain aligned with global best practice standards,” she added.

 

Lesedi’s in-house maintenance services division was established specifically to perform outage maintenance work at Koeberg Nuclear Power Station. In support of long-term plant performance, the division develops comprehensive operating and maintenance manuals for power plants and equipment, together with formalised training programmes for staff responsible for operating and maintaining the plant after takeover.

Whether delivered as a stand-alone offering or as part of an integrated suite of services supporting project delivery and ongoing operations, Lesedi’s Services division assists clients in protecting vital and high-value infrastructure assets while extending their operational life. Through focused skills development and strategic international collaboration, Lesedi continues to strengthen South Africa’s nuclear capability while upholding the highest standards of safety, reliability, and performance.
