1980
Lesedi Nuclear Services evolved from Intens Engineering soon after the construction and commissioning of South Africas Nuclear Power Station by AREVA NP in the mid-1980's.
Founder and creator Mr Francis Carruthers spearheaded the creation and establishment of Lesedi as it is today.
1988
Mr Francis Carruthers becomes the Managing Director and a major shareholder of Intens engineering, a service engineering company. Under his leadership Intens evolved over the years into a successful engineering and project management organization.2000
Lesedi Engineering was co-founded between Mr Francis Carruthers and new BEE entrant Mr Eric McDonald.2001
In 2001, Lesedi Engineering partnered with global nuclear leader AREVA NP who acquired a 45% stake in the company and form Lesedi Nuclear Services, a BBBEE shareholding company.
Mr Francis Carruthers becomes CEO.
2006
In 2006 AREVA NP acquired another 6% stake in Lesedi, giving it a majority shareholding of 51%.
In building capacity for the “nuclear renaissance”, Lesedi diversified into other energy-related infrastructure projects in the South African power industry.
2012
In June 2012, Lesedi was joined by new industrial partners Group Five and the J&J Group to further position itself in the South African power industry.2015
In August 2015, Lesedi acquired a specialist resource pool with over 25 years’ experience in the areas of sugar, biomass, oil & gas, and pharmaceutical to gain access to these markets and complement Lesedi’s existing resource base.2016
In October 2016, Lesedi acquired a specialist resource pool that has over 15 years’ experience in the minerals processing and emissions control sectors to gain access to new markets in the mining sector.2018
Lesedi launches new identity:
Responsibility for the future. A new era: Lesedi has diversified into a major engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) company, having successfully completed numerous key projects in nuclear, industrial power, mining, and oil & gas environments. Lesedi's main shareholder is Framatome (previously AREVA and renamed in January 2018).

Lesedi Nuclear Services comes into its own as a home-grown South African company ready to take on the next challenge for Africa. We are a company born in Africa, for Africa, empowering Africa. Lesedi is on a journey of transformation. With Lesedi evolving into a firmly established African company, the time has arrived to rebrand the company to reflect its purpose and vision for the future.
2020
Lesedi completes over 90 interventions for nuclear outages worldwide.2023
In July 2023, Lesedi Nuclear Services expands into the UK.
In December 2023, founder of Lesedi Mr Francis Carruthers hands over the CEO position to Mr Leon van Wyk.
2024
Framatome regains majority shareholding of Lesedi with the exit of GS and J&J.
Mr Francis Carruthers retains a minority shareholding.
