Responsibility

Lesedi Nuclear Services and AREVA's Corporate Social Investment entails the investment of skills and allocated financial resources in various disadvantaged communities within the areas which the company's facilities operate. Today Lesedi's CSI plan focuses on the community of Atlantis, from which it draws a large portion of its workforce both for projects at the Koeberg Nuclear Power Station and the current Open Cycle Gas Turbine project for Eskom. Corporate Social Investment (CSI) in the area of Atlantis is an important pillar in Lesedi's overall transformation strategy and plays a key role in enhancing the company's reputation as a truly South African company.

Lesedi Nuclear Services strategy considers it necessary to promote and influence economic and social change in the communities in which its facilities are situated, projects are running and where its employees are residing.

Principles

Lesedis Corporate Social Investment policy is guided by six basic principles:

The most impact will be achieved by focusing on a few key issues/projects
Investments will be chosen according to their ability to deliver tangible results in areas that will be of benefit to Lesedi Nuclear Services employees
Financial support should be supplemented whenever possible by the hands-on participation of employees
When appropriate, support for organisations will take the form of an on-going relationship, with every effort made to assist them
Employee participation in the identification of projects as well as the management of the project, i.e. representation on board/ committee/trust

CSI Overview

Lesedi supports a range of community and social organisations within the Atlantis area. Lesedi's community development projects have been highlighted below.

Orion Organisation (Wilge Day Care)

Wilge Special Day Care Centre offers specialised care and training for intellectually, physically and multiple disabled children. This is extremely costly with funds required to finance educational and therapeutic equipment, as well as the monthly running costs of specialised transportation and salaries for therapists, care givers and nurses.

Initially Lesedi provided financial support to Wilge Special Day Care by purchasing essential capital equipment (e.g. stove, carpets, reverse walkers, steel rolator, standing frames, a nebuliser, a stethoscope, a microwave, hydrobaths, etc.)

This year Lesedi will be pursuing a sustainable program that will ensure the long term continuation and improvement of the Wilge Day Care centre.
